Kendal Reynolds Headed To Rio Grande

6-2 senior Kendal Reynolds, the 4th leading scorer in Trojan history with 1,341 points, will be extending his basketball career at the University of Rio Grande. Reynolds was Portsmouth's leading scorer this past season as the Trojans posted a 17-8 record. Reynolds made multiple all-conference, all-district, and all-state honors in his career. Reynolds joins Kyre Allison, Tory Horne, Andrew Bendolph, Jayllen Carter, and Sky Oliver as players who played for Coach Eugene Collins and extended their careers beyond PHS.

Congratulations to Kendal on furthering his career at the URG.

Kendall Reynolds Career Scoring Update 5/1/2017

Previously it was posted that Kendal Reynolds had passed Larry Hisle into 3rd place all time on the Trojans career scoring list. That was in error due to unofficial point totals that were reported without true verification. As of 3/22/2017, Kendal is 4th on the Trojans all time scoring list, just behind Larry Hisle's 1,375. His official total has not been finalized, but it is not the 1,400+ plus that was previously reported. My apologies for reporting this without full verification.

The Current Decade of PHS Basketball Ranks 2nd in School History

The Portsmouth Trojans have an outstanding 155-64 record from 2010-2018, in which PHS is averaging 17 wins a season. Historically, compared to other decades, the current decade is the 2nd most successful period in school history. It is only topped by the 1980's, in which the Trojans amassed an amazing 197-50 record, for an average of almost 20 wins a season. Of course there are still 2 years left in this decade. Also, the 2 state Final 4 appearances rank with the 1920's, 1930's, and 1980's for most Final 4 trips.

Great Honor For Portsmouth Trojans Basketball!!

While watching the Buckeye Elite Showcase games at Portsmouth HS this past weekend, I noticed that our state championship trophies were missing along with the pictures of the state championship teams which have always been posted on the east wall of the gym lobby. Yesterday I found out why.........I talked with AD Joe Albrecht and he told me that the trophies and pictures are being displayed at the OHSAA office in Columbus. I don't know if this is a yearly thing that the OHSAA does, but it is a great honor for Portsmouth Trojans basketball!!

2016-2017 Portsmouth Trojans Game Scores and Highlights

First game of the season: Portsmouth 47, Waterford 44..........the Trojans trailed the Wildcats 32-21 at halftime, but Coach Eugene Collins decided to press Waterford after the break, and it was the difference in the game. WHS scored only 12 points after halftime, and Portsmouth forced 17 turnovers. 6-3 senior Kendal Reynolds came through with some clutch baskets/FT's in the final 2 minutes. PHS still trailed 38-32 going into the 4th quarter, but won the battle in the final frame 15-6.

The OVC Preview 2016-2017

The Portsmouth Trojans will start their 3rd season of Ohio Valley Conference play in 2016-2017. Last season, the Fairland Dragons won the conference crown with a perfect 14-0 league mark. Fairland returns all 5 starters from a year ago, plus several key players off the bench. The Dragons starting 5 were all sophomores a year ago, and still they advanced to the district finals where they lost to eventual regional champion Lynchburg Clay. FHS should be a prohibitive favorite to capture another OVC crown.
