Lady Trojan Sienna Allen has been named the Ohio D5 Player of the Year. She led the team in scoring in 4 tournament games in the state championship run, and her 20 points in the state semifinal vs. Fairland is tied with teammate Daysha Reid for the most points in a single game in the Final 4 by a Lady Trojan.
Sienna is only a junior and could become the all time leading scorer in PHS basketball history as she has already passed the 1,000 point mark.
Update 9/12/2025: Sienna accepted an offer to play basketball at Ohio University.
The Portsmouth Lady Trojans won the 1st state championship in Lady Trojan history with a convincing 53-38 win over Creston Norwayne in the 2025 D5 state championship game. Junior Sienna Allen led PHS with 17 points, while sophomores Hayven Carter and KeKe Woods scored 11. Senior Daysha Reid scored 10, freshmen Salem Allen scored 3, and sophomore Brianna Shannon made a FT.
With the win, PHS finished the season at 27-1, tying the 1988 boys D2 state championship team which also went 27-1.
Congratulations to PJHS 8th graders Joe Greene and Ryan Monroe for scoring their 500th point during the OVC 8th grade basketball tournament. The 8th grade Trojans beat Ironton in the OVC tournament championship game 53-52 in OT. They finished undefeated for the entire season.

Aaron Smith was recently named the 30th head basketball coach in PHS history. Smith takes over for Jeff Lisath, who resigned his position as HC and returned to the Dayton Northridge schools, where he was serving as Asst.Supt. Smith played for the Trojans in the early 2000's, and was a member of the 2004 sectional championship team that upset South Point, then PHS went on to defeat Albany Alexander in the district semifinals.
I have added some content about the Lady Trojans on this site, because I feel that with the title being "Portsmouth Trojans Basketball", that presenting some material about them is necessary and appropriate. While this site has been since its inception in 2011 primarily a Portsmouth boys basketball website, and will continue to be so, there will be some inclusion about the Lady Trojans.
