Portsmouth Trojans boys basketball coach Eugene Collins completed his 13th season at PHS, and now has an overall record of 192-116, with 2 Final 4 appearances in 2011 and 2012, an Elite 8 appearance in 2015, an SEOAL championship in 2012 and 2014, and seasons of 21, 24, and 20 wins, coming in 2011, 2012, and 2015, respectively. Coach Collins was also named the SEOAL coach of the year in 2012, and D3 Ohio COY. His last 4 teams in the SEOAL (2011-2014) finished 2nd, 1st, 2nd, and 1st in the league.
PHS vs. Coal Grove.........CG 72, PHS 71........Trojans lose on 3 pointer by CG at the buzzer.......Devin Lattimore 29 pts., Kenny Sanderlin 23. Owen Johnson of CG with 39, including game winning 3 ball......PHS 0-1 on the season and in the OVC.
12/9 Friday at South Point.......SP 73, PHS 55........Devin Lattimore 22 pts. Pointers jumped to an 18-4 first quarter lead. PHS 0-2 in the OVC.
Saturday:12/10 at SSU in Buckeye Elite vs. New Hope 5:00 PM varsity only.......PHS 73, New Hope 47......DeAndre Berry 19 pts., Tyler Duncan and Devin Lattimore double figures.
Portsmouth scrimmaged at Chillicothe yesterday and fared well considering they were down 2 starters, Devin Lattimore and DeAndre Berry. Starters for PHS were SR Kenny Sanderlin, JR Donnovan Breech, JR Isaiah Lewis, JR Noah Livingston, and SO Luke Stine. There were a couple of players off the bench. Chillicothe won the scrimmage by a total of about 11 points.
The Portsmouth Trojans are off to a strong start in summer play as they recorded a 6-0 mark for the week of June 7-11. PHS won handily at Northwest on Tuesday, then went 5-0 at the Denison University Shootout, including 2 wins over Columbus Independence, in which 1 was the championship game of the bracket.
So far the turnout has been excellent, with as many as a dozen players showing up.

5-10 sophomore DeAndre Berry scored eight 3 pointers for a total of 24 points, leading the Trojans to an 87-66 win over Ripley (OH). Berry tied Matthew Fraulini's 2020 record, in which Fraulini scored a school record 46 points vs. Rock Hill.
