Here is a decade by decade record of the Portsmouth Trojans with highlights:

1913-1919: 71-27.........1917 team makes "unofficial" state tournament, 1919 team goes 21-1
1920-1929: 118-46.......Trojans make 4 state appearances, 2 Final Fours
1930-1939: 145-55.......PHS wins first state championship in 1931, state runnerup in 1934, state appearance in 1939
1940-1949: 121-93.......Portsmouth makes state appearance in 1941, district championship in 1948
1950-1959: 135-84.......Trojans win district titles in 1950, 1951, 1952, 1954, 1955, 1956; regional finals in 1955 and 1956
1960-1969: 139-69.......PHS wins district titles in 1960, 1961, 1963, 1964, 1967, 1969; wins 2nd state title in 1961
1970-1979: 133-74.......1972 team wins Class AAA district title; 1978 team wins school's 3rd state championship; 1979 team AP Poll champions 18-0
1980-1989: 197-50.......Trojans win 6 district titles; very first D2 state championship in OHSAA history in 1988 with a school best 27-1 record
1990-1999: 136-87.......PHS wins district titles in 1990, 1991, 1994, 1999; state runnerup in D2 in 1990 with a 24-3 record
2000-2009: 100-121.....only losing decade in PHS history; won district title in 2001
2010-2019: 163-80.....Trojans make back to back state appearances in 2011 and 2012; finish state runnerup in D3 in 2012 with a 24-3 record; SEOAL champions 2012 and 2014; finished regional runnerup in 2015.

2020-2024: 55-57......won sectional title in 2024, 1st since 2017; finished 2nd in OVC in 2024 (10-4), DeAndre Berry 1,264 points.

The longest stretch of winning seasons for PHS was from 1963-1984, and from 1947-1991 the Trojans recorded only 5 losing seasons (1957, 1958, 1959, 1962, 1985). From 1987-1991, Portsmouth amassed a record of 116-14 with 5 district titles, a state championship in 1988, a state runnerup in 1990, and an Elite 8 appearance in 1991. The longest period between state appearances was from 1990-2011.
